Handfasting is the tradition followed by most earth-based religions (Paganism, Wicca, Druidism, etc.) where the binding of two souls together in a sacred and holy union takes place. The history of handfasting goes far back into time when this was the only way people could get married, as the church allowed the civil government of that time era to control such ceremonies. Many laws were put into place throughout history to control and mandate who could marry who (sound familiar? . . we have that issue even today in some states!). These laws and mandates were dictated by religion, socio-economic status, ethnicity, etc. Handfasting is a very sacred ritualistic ceremony where two people pledge their love to each other with the intention of starting a new life together – emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Rituals from the earth based religions, Buddhism, Druidism and traditional modern religion is combined in a personal and sacred ceremony to unite two people as they start a new life-journey together. Handfastings are great for couples being joined for the first time, but also excellent for those renewing their marriage vows to one another who desire a new start. Octavia is an Ordained Minister and can legally bind the couple in holy matrimony, or facilitate a Handfasting ceremony without the legalities. Several religious traditions are combined in this celebration, which takes the couple and their guests through a journey in time and culture.
